Goya and Africa: an online exhibition
The paintings and prints of the Spanish artist Francisco de Goya (1746-1828) are some of the most powerful artworks ever produced about conflict, poverty and violence. This exhibition presents a small selection alongside works by contemporary African artists Michael Armitage, Dumile Feni, Ronald Harrison, William Kentridge, Roméo Mivekannin, Grace Nyahangare, Johannes Phokela, Athi-Patra Ruga, Yinka Shonibare MBE, and Diane Victor, whose responses to the legacies of war and colonialism in Africa resonate with Goya’s. Check out their bios, explore their works in the four galleries, and send us your creative responses!
