broken promise
These paintings reflect on the empty words of politicians who claim to be committed to helping people to build a better life. Goya’s work tells a similar story of the failure of the Church and monarchy to protect their own people, and of the violence inflicted upon them by Napoleon. Roméo Mivekannin’s Tres de Mayo, after Goya reminds us of the presence of Black people in Europe in this period.
